Con Mönnich kwam in februari 1974 voor het eerst naar Polranny. In Mayo maakte hij toen veel z/w foto’s. Nadat hij als commercieel fotograaf gepensioneerd was, ging hij door zijn archieven en stuitte ook op de negatieven uit 1974. In 2016 kwam hij terug met een mapje afdrukken. Er was natuurlijk meteen belangstelling voor ook al vanwege de historische waarde van de foto’s. De interesse resulteerde in een aantal tentoonstellingen en (anno 2021) twee boekjes. Con en ik werkte erin samen: hij met foto’s en ik met tekeningen.
Con Mönnich came for the first time to Polranny in February 1974. In Mayo he made many black and white photographs. After retiring as a commercial photographer Con went through his archives. He discovered the negatives from 1974. In 2016 he came back to Polranny with a folder of his old photos. Immediately there was a lot of interest if only for the historical importance of the photos. It resulted in a number of exhibitions and (anno 2021) two books. Con and I worked together on them: he with photos and I with sketches.
Beginnend met St Patrick’s Day 2017 heb ik een aantal malen geëxposeerd met Con Mönnich. De eerste keer was in Patten’s Bar in Derreens. Achill Island daarna in Ginger&Wild Ballycroy National Park Visitor Centre, tijdens het Bridge Festival in McLoughlin’s in Achill Sound. Daarna volgde nog The National Museum of Country Life in Turlough en Custom House Studios in Westport.
Starting with St Patrick’s Day 2017 Con Mönnich and I have exhibited several times together. Het first time was in Patten’s Bar in Derreens, Achill Island, followed by Ginger&Wild in Ballycroy National Park Visitors Center and the bridge Festival in McLoughlin’s, Achill Sound. After that we had shows in The National Museum of Country Life in Turlough and Custom House Studios in Westport.
