De meeste kerkjes getekend in Noord Friesland liggen op de route van de Afsluitdijk naar Lauwersoog. Alle kerkjes staan op een terp.

Most of the churches drawn in the north of Friesland are to be found on the way from the Afsluitdijk (Barrier Dam) to Lauwersoog (also a Barrier Dam strictly speaking). All churches are built on a Terp (earthen dwelling mount as protection against high water)

De meeste kerkjes in Gemeente Het Hoge Land zijn oorspronkelijk in de middeleeuwen gebouwd, maar in de loop van de honderden jaren sindsdien is er aardig wat aan vertimmerd.

Most churches in Het Hoge Land are originally built in the Middle Ages. Since then there has been quite a few renovations and repairs.

Ulrum 1834: Reverend Hendrik de Cock of the deserted with his congregation the Dutch Protestant Church and started his own Church. At the time the Dutch Protestant Church was the only official church in the Netherlands. De Cock’s conflict with officialdom got so out of hand that the Government in Den Haag send troops to Ulrum to subdue the renegades. De Cock persisted and the separation was a fact: the Gereformeerde Kerk was born.

Ulrum 1834 , onder leiding van ds. Hendrik de Cock dominee aldaar, scheidde een groep gelovigen zich af van de Nederlands Hervormde Kerk, in die tijd de enige officieel toegestane kerk. Hij stichtte zijn eigen kerkgemeenschap. Het liep zo hoog op dat de regering in Den Haag troepen naar Ulrum stuurde om de dominee uit het kerkgebouw te zetten. Hendrik de Cock hield vol en de geboorte van de Gereformeerde kerk was een feit.
